A gale warning is in effect,with winds,currently from the southwest , at 30-35 knots.
Earlier today, winds were reported at as high as 50 knots.
The waves were raging at the beach in Alma and could be seen from the old schoolhouse, surging high into the air.
Considerable damage was sustained along the sea wall, with portions ripped away by the force of the incoming tide.
Debris was strewn alongside one of the hotels, logs,seaweed and rocks having been thrown about by the force of the winds.
One of the fishing boats broke loose, but has now been safely secured.
Thankfully, the last boat out in the bay, made it to shore and the harbour .
All the lobster boats are accounted for,which is a major relief for the community.
